The Role

Dematic has an immediate need for an Electrical Controls Engineer (Crossbelt) in our Global Project Engineering group, working REMOTE/HOME-BASED or  OFFICE BASED (at our Southwest Operations office located in Lewisville, TX).


Remote/Home-based Criteria:

  • Must live within 60 miles of a major airport.
  • Good internet service provider to ensure system connectivity.
  • Above average communications skills (written & verbal).
  • Must have material handling industry experience.
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites and/or Southwest Ops office as required.
  • Dematic will not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Position Summary:

Dematic has an immediate need for an Electrical Controls Engineer (Crossbelt) in our Global Project Engineering group, reporting into an Engineering Manager. You will have the ability to provide superior customer service to a variety of industry verticals: food & beverage, apparel, e-commerce and more by commissioning Crossbelt Systems in a warehouse setting.


Job Family Responsibilities:
Participates in the design of semi-complex systems that integrate hardware and software from a Controls perspective. Provides support in semi-complex material specification, schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up. Participates in recommending ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning of Crossbelt Systems to Dematic’s customers across the United States.
  • Read and troubleshoot C Code.
  • Performs important areas of standard professional level controls work that typically requires processing and interpreting, more complex, less clearly defined issues. This includes the application of industrial controls related to Material Handling equipment (conveyors, sortation, specialized Dematic equipment, etc.) 
  • Industrial controls include the use of Specialized Dematic computers, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Graphics Panels, related drawing markups (schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.) and final documentation.  These systems range from simple to complex, typically working in a team environment with other engineers. 
  • Areas of responsibility can include leading a Controls team on larger projects to working individually on a smaller project. 
  • All aspects of a project are included from order receipt, into design, ordering hardware, test, and field commissioning.

What We Are Looking For

Typically a 4 year BSEE or Software Engineering degree in a related discipline is required.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of databases (i.e. Microsoft Access) and the ability to read and troubleshoot C code is required.
  • Knowledge of circular, cross tray, push tray or split tray (bombay) sorters.
  • Linear Induction Motors (LIM) drives, Vahle (power systems), Busbar & WiFi systems (communication/power).
  • Knowledge in TCP/IP, FTP, and telnet
  • Experience with Visual Studio, VB.NET, Microsoft SQL Server preferred.
  • The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 2 years related experience, including planning, specification, and implementation of engineering design projects.
  • Demonstrates a good grasp of knowledge and principles of field of specialization and applies through successful completion of assignments.
  • Successfully applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization.
  • Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable.
  • Ability to speak and read Italian is a plus.




This position requires a high level of travel due to onsite commissioning work. Travel can range anywhere from 60% - 70% depending on the project and is typically on weekends and possibly over some holidays.

Direction of Others:
May provide general guidance or train lower level support staff.

Key Working Relationships:
Primarily intra-organizational contacts and some external contacts.
